- PUPO.COM (POP-UP PRINT OPTIONS FOR IBM GRAPHICS PRINTER)
- POPO.COM (POP-UP PRINT OPTIONS FOR IBM PROPRINTER)
-
- These two programs are adaptations for the IBM printers of a program published
- by PC Magazine in the June 24, 1986 issue, Page 267. They are meant to be run
- once at the beginning of a session with your computer and they will stay
- resident until you turn off the computer, or re-boot.
-
- To run the program, simply choose the version that is correct for your printer
- (see title, above) and issue the name at the DOS prompt. E.G. if you have a
- ProPrinter, you will use POPO. At the DOS prompt (for instance, "A>" if your
- default drive is "A" you would key "POPO" as shown below:
-
- A>POPO
-
- ...and then press return. You should only see some disk activity and then be
- back to the DOS prompt as if nothing happened. Except now if you hold down the
- Control key while you press the right shift key you will get a window in the
- center of your screen that can setup your printer as shown on the menu. This
- method may be used at any time now to use the program -- even if you are in the
- middle of using some other program, you will not have to leave that program to
- issue the printer commands. This is the advantage of a DOS resident program.
-
- The disadvantage is that it will take up some memory (about 3400 bytes). If you
- cannot afford to use this memory, then use my other programs: PRTOPT.COM for
- the IBM graphics printer; or PROPT.COM for the IBM ProPrinter. These programs
- will not take up space in memory when other programs are being run, but they can
- only be used from DOS.
-
- The menus should be self-explanatory. The only thing that may not be immediately
- clear is that most functions are set by simply pressing the function key number
- that corresponds to the menu item, and is unset by pressing the SHIFTED function
- key of the same number. For example, to issue a command to the printer to set
- the Compressed print mode press F1. To unset Compressed print mode hold down the
- shift key as you press F1. There is a reminder at the bottom of the menu for
- this purpose.
-
- To return to your application program, simply press "Esc". The window will
- disappear and the data that was under it will again be there.
-
- The F10 key is a special routine that will allow you to reset the printer to the
- state that it normally comes up in when it is first powered-up. This is meant as
- a convenience so that if you cannot remember all of the modes you have
- accumulated, you will not need to cancel them each, but can issue a reset
- instead. Remember, however, that a reset also resets the top of form. It is
- exactly the same as if you reached over and turned off your printer and then
- turned it back on.
